Are you looking to improve your guitar skills?
Whether you're a beginner looking to get started, or an experienced player looking to tighten up your established abilities, I can help.
I'm a guitarist based in Bristol with a degree in Popular Music and years of experience both as a music teacher, and a professional musician in general. My speciality is learning large set lists of songs at very short notice to fill in for bands who are suddenly in need of a guitarist. I've found myself playing live on the radio a few times, as well as at all sorts of wonderful venues all around the country and beyond.
My approach to guitar teaching centres on initially picking out the areas of technique and musical knowledge that are most important to achieving your aims, and gradually building up your ability with those in mind. As you become more advanced I'll also introduce techniques and ideas from other genres to help you become a more rounded player, and push your abilities in to new territories.
If we're doing in-person lessons, and after a few months you feel ready, I'll also take you out to a local open mic night for your first live performance to showcase your new skills. I do this completely free of charge, as watching students realise how far they've come when they perform live for the first time is one of the things I enjoy most about teaching guitar. Take a look through some of the photos attached and you'll see some of the students I've taken out to play their first ever gig.

January 27, 2022 at 4:41 pmSean is a fantastic Guitar Teacher/Mentor and my 17 year old son Cameron has been really inspired. Sean really goes the extra yard by helping combining singing with the guitar, even setting up open mike nights at a local pub to draw out the talent of his students and gaining them great life experiences from this. All types of music are covered from Rock to Jazz etc. Helping with Grade Music for College, Recording tracks and various Techniques has also been a bonus. I am so glad that that Sean takes the time to really get to know the pupil and help them along their journey.

January 27, 2022 at 4:43 pmBeing a 40 something long time guitar dabbler i decided to take the plunge with some lessons. So glad i did. Quickly puts you at ease even when my confidence level is low at the start of a lesson. Love how he uses songs that i want to play to improve my playing. Just had the best lesson yet culminating in a jamming session with Martin singing Tenacious D Tribute……epic!!!!
if your thinking of guitar lessons then Martin is your man. Top bloke.

January 27, 2022 at 4:44 pmI have not long started to have lessons with Martin and really look forward to them each week. I think I am going to take some teaching as I struggle to make my fingers go where I want them to. Martin is so patient and it must be as frustrating if not more for him as it is for me but he doesn’t show it and he really puts me at ease and gives me loads of encouragement. Roll on my next lesson.

January 27, 2022 at 4:47 pmMartin is a very dedicated, patient and experienced guitar tutor. He provides just the right amount of persistence and encouragement, and for someone who has been self taught for the last few years, Martin is challenging my playing and taking me right out of my comfort zone, which I think is crucial to developing and improving as a player. I cannot recommend his tutoring highly enough.

January 27, 2022 at 4:48 pmI have had several tutorials with Martin and I plan to have more.
Each time he has made me feel very relaxed and his teaching manner
is adaptable so you can concentrate on the areas most in need of
improvement.
After every lesson I leave feeling as though I have made a break-through in
my guitar playing with both theory and technique.
I would recommend Martin to anyone at any level.

January 27, 2022 at 4:48 pmI started guitar lessons with Martin about 18 months ago to prepare for my first ever performance on my 65th birthday last summer. Following that my brother in law and a friend both asked me to play bass for their bands for performances this summer so I have also been taking bass lessons from him. He is excellent at all aspects from practical playing tips to music theory and I have learned a lot from him and continue to really enjoy the lessons.

January 27, 2022 at 4:49 pmMyself and my niece started guitar lessons with Martin around 6 months ago as complete beginners. Martin is an excellent teacher and has been very patient with us and our lessons are easy to follow and explained very well. I would highly recommend Martin! 5 stars…if I could give 10 stars I would!!

January 27, 2022 at 4:49 pmMartin is a great teacher! From the start he understands your objectives and tailors lessons to suit – I wanted to learn how to play finger style and after only a few lessons and Martin’s advice I’ve made loads of progress. All the more impressive as with lockdown these lessons have all been online! To keeps things interesting Martin also set an optional group project – all students could contribute to an online band video. Would really recommend!
